Location & Finding Us
Location
Whether you’re after towns, the coastline or mountains we are in the perfect location for your holiday.
At the bottom of our drive the River Teifi opens out to the sea through the estuary and just a 20 minute walk will take you to Poppit sands, a long stretch of sandy beach with Crwst which is an excellent cafe serving delicious bakes, coffee and ice cream from Conti’s Ice Cream made locally in Lampeter. At low tide you can reach Poppit by walking along the estuary shore.
We are located right at the start of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and even if you don't fancy the whole walk, a day's rambling will take you to beautiful views of the coast and secret coves. In the Summer months you can take the Poppit Rocket bus to Moylegrove or Newport and walk back along the coast path to Albro, all in a days hike.
The Preseli Mountains are a 20 minuet drive away and well worth a visit. The beautiful, dramatic landscape is perfect for a day out in the Welsh countryside. You may even encounter a few friendly mountain ponies or inquisitive sheep.
Cilgerran Wildlife Centre is a 15 minuet drive away and can also be reached by a riverside walk from Cardigan. Here there is a visitor centre and cafe and it is a wonderful place to go for a more gentle walk. If you like to be on the water you can also canoe/kayak from the bottom of our drive up to the centre along the river Teifi, on a bright day this is a beautiful trip.
We are set on the outskirts of St.Dogmeals, a charming village centred around the ruins of the Abbey and a working watermill where you can buy some homemade bread and flour milled on site. There is also a Post Office, small Premier Mini Supermarket, an excellent Fish and Chip shop and two good pubs.
The Town of Cardigan is just a 30 minuet walk from our door, or a 10 minuet drive, and has an abundance of independent shops and cafes. In the summer Fforest Pizza Tipi opens it’s doors, a lovely riverside stop serving pizzas and local beers. In the winter there are plenty of good pubs and cosy cafes to enjoy after a long walk. Cardigan is also home to three supermarkets, a cinema and theatre and Cardigan Castle which is now open as a visitor centre.
Finding Us
St.Dogmaels is a coastal village next to the market town of Cardigan and doesn't carry all the transport variety and regularity that a city does. So if you don't drive then it may take some planning and consideration to find us. Below are detailed directions on how to find us and some information on public transport.
By Car
If you are arriving from either Carmarthen (A484) or Aberwystwyth (A487) then the first place you'll come to in Cardigan is Finch Square Bus Stop and Cafe. Drive straight on approaching the high street and take the first left turn after the bus stop. Follow the road round past the Castle walls which will be on your right and the Teifi river to your left. Then take the left turn over the bridge and turn right to St.Dogmaels past the yellow pub. Follow this road for about 1 mile. You will go past some houses on both sides and Glebelands Vegetable Shop on your left and on into the centre of St.Dogmaels. Go past Mor Ffein Fish and Chip Shop on your left and Premier Mini Market on your right and follow the road to your right signposted to Poppit Sands. Go straight ahead past the Ferry Inn and come to the Estuary on your right. Shortly after the jetty there is a small turning to your left with a white sign at the bottom reading Tide Reach, turn up here and head right to the top.
If you are arriving from Fishguard on the A487 then, when you get to the main roundabout on the south side of Cardigan, take the first turning left past a housing estate and terraced houses. Go down the hill and you will see the bridge into Cardigan ahead. Before you reach the bridge turn left past the yellow pub (now you are on the road to St.Dogmeals) and then follow the same instructions as above.
On Foot
We are literally at the beginning/end of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
If you are arriving from the Coast Path then before you reach us you'll reach Poppit Sands. Follow the main road past the carpark at Poppit and carry straight on along the gorse banks and mud flats. Pass the Teifi Waterside Hotel (or make a stop for a drink overlooking the estuary) and continue up a steep hill. At the top of the hill follow the road left and carry on until it starts to go down hill through an avenue of trees. When you reach the bottom of this hill you will see the estuary to your left and a turning and small sign to your right reading Tide Reach. Turn up here and continue straight up to the top. Now you should have reached us.
